Savings Goal Calculator

The monthly amount that gets you to your goal on time.

Tell us what you are saving for, and by when. We will show the monthly amount that gets you there.

How it works

First we work out what your current savings will grow to by your deadline. Then we work out the monthly payment that covers the remaining gap, using: PMT = FV × r ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of months.

Example

Want $20,000 in 3 years, with $2,000 already saved and 4% interest? You would need to save $465 a month. Interest chips in around $1,300, so you deposit less than the full $18,000 gap.

Common savings goals

  • Emergency fund: 3 to 6 months of essential spending.
  • House deposit: 5 to 20% of the property price, plus closing costs (US) or stamp duty and legal fees (UK).
  • Car, wedding or holiday: saving ahead means no loan interest to pay.

Tips to hit your goal faster

  • Automate a transfer on payday, so the money moves before you can spend it.
  • Keep goal money in a separate, high-interest account.
  • UK savers: a Lifetime ISA adds a 25% government bonus for a first home (conditions apply).
